Irises screen (Nishijin textile)

A motif from Korin Ogata's "Tsubame-kabana" (Swallow and Swallow Blossoms), owned by the Nezu Museum, is framed.

Even with only three colors, the bold composition, more than 1,000 pieces of gold leaf, and rock paints using expensive minerals such as peacock stone give the motifs from the folding screen a very luxurious atmosphere, but when framed, they spread across the entire screen, giving a different impression from the folding screen. The oxidized and darkened gold leaf is delicately expressed, and the blue color of the swallow-tail flowers is also expressed using threads dyed in different shades of blue.
