Heart Sutra (Nishijin textile)

It is said to be a compilation of 600 volumes of the "Heart Sutra," and is said to contain the essence of Mahayana Buddhism. The Hannya Shingyo, which is in the collection of the Kyoto National Museum and is said to have been written by Kukai, is folded in Nishijin brocade. Even the brush strokes are finely rendered, making it look as if it were truly written by a brush on paper. The style of the gold letters floating on a black background gives it a sense of prestige different from that of a hanging scroll.
