Cloud Dragon small framed (Nishijin textile)

A hanging scroll based on the motif of “Unryu (Cloud Dragon),” one of the masterpieces of Kanō Tanyū, a painter of the Kano school in the early Edo period.

Pure platinum foil is woven throughout to express the strong wind and splashes of water, and the use of platinum foil on the claws of the paws and gold foil on the hair and eyes emphasize the sublimity and power of the dragon.
