White Rain at Shono -Fifty-three stations of the Tokaido road- (Nishijin textile)

Shono was a post station in Ise Province, present-day Mie Prefecture, but the work depicts people running up and down an unremarkable hillside to avoid a sudden evening shower. The platinum plaster woven into the rain adds a cooler temperature to the bold rain depiction, and the gold leaf used on the umbrellas worn by the people running to avoid the rain brings the figures to life even more.
