Bamboo and Tiger (Nishijin textile)

A tiger emerges from a bamboo grove and gazes at something. The dynamism of the tiger's movement, the vivid green of the bamboo, and the textile's unique texture that evokes the tiger's tight yet glossy fur, seem to evoke the sensation that a tiger has appeared in your tokonoma (alcove). It is a very powerful work with a strong sense of presence.
The original "Tigers in a Bamboo Grove" is said to have been painted by Kano Tanyu, and is part of the Nanzenji temple barrier painting.
