温故知新（Onkochishin） refers to the contemplation of old knowledge and traditions, and then to new insights and discoveries based on that knowledge and traditions.

In the context of Zen Buddhism, "Onkochishin" may refer to the process of coming to a new enlightenment or understanding through a deeper understanding of older teachings and traditional Zen doctrines, and through this, insight into one's own inner self. In other words, the idea is to respect the teachings of the past while connecting them to one's own experience and understanding, leading to new wisdom and insight.
